Platform games is a genre of games. Platform games mainly consist from a series of jumping puzzles to and from suspended platforms. The player goal is to prevent character from falling off the platform and controlling jumps. The common element for all platform games is the УjumpФ button.
The first game in this genre was released in the 1980s. In the middle of 1990s appeared 3D-platformers. Platform games are usually associated with consoles but there are many platform arcades for PC either. There are also some sub-genres such as "action-platformer", "adventure-platformer" and "puzzle-platformer".
The most popular platform games are Mario Bros series, Donkey Kong, Crash Bandicoot, Sonic. At PC the most famous release in this genre is Tomb Raider.
